Stylishly Cozy Throw Pillows
They are finally done! This collection was harder for me to bring into fruition. I knew that I wanted these pillowcases to be fashionable, cozy, have texture, be festive-but be useful for the entire season. That was a big set of criteria for a pillow to encompass. I love that throw pillows can add to your decor and give your home a cozy feeling, while being stylish too.
Choosing the fabrics was harder than I originally anticipated. I just couldn’t find the pattern that I was seeing in my mind. I waffled for a bit, but didn’t want to settle. So, that winter white and white canvas fabric ended up being the base for new ideas, fabric patterns that I created myself.

You can check out the entire collection in the Make Lemonade Shop, either click through from the blog or access the site directly. It has it’s own url now! Yippee! www.makelemonadeshop.com ! How exciting is that? During all the creative flurry I had to get technical too. Setting up the url and taking the photos and editing them for the shop. Uploading, pricing, descriptions. And I created a Gallery for Custom Pillowcases that are not in the shop. If you are interested in a Custom Case let me know, we’ll work together to create your own style.
It never fails to amaze me how much I have learned along the way. So much more to learn, but I’m happy with the progress thus far! One day I will probably look back and be reflective of the first 2 Collections, hopefully I will still be learning and growing as the seasons change.
Stylishly Cozy Throw Pillows – Joy & Peace
I love the Christmas Season. It’s a happy time, full of family, love, random acts of kindness. I certainly wish that it could last the whole year through. I wanted to make a few throw pillows to celebrate the season, but I also wanted to create pillowcases that could grace your sofa for the entire fall and winter.
Not finding the perfect fabrics stumped me for a bit. I wanted a large damask pattern on a winter white background, I searched high and low and couldn’t find one that I truly loved. I also wanted to have several different color options in the damask. I believe I was asking too much of the fabric. Stores carry patterns that the masses will use and purchase. But the Make Lemonade Shop is all about Unique, Different, One of a Kind Throw Pillows.
What’s a girl to do? I racked my brain, over and over, put my subconscious to work over the issue, and let it set for a few days. The best, and only, workable plan was to create the fabric pattern myself. This way I have total control over the colors and hues of the finished product. And it makes it fun, I am excited to see how different shades work together. Adding iridescent properties. metallics and pearlized effects.
“Joy” Throw Pillows
I didn’t realize how difficult it was going to be to photograph iridescents and metallics. Although I did not use the flash on my camera the true depth of color and shine of the fabric did not come through as well as I’d like. These patterns are lightly washed on the fabric, letting the original white come through creating a vintage feel. In other areas the sparkle and shine is dreamy and oh so delicious. I’ll be doing some research and taking more photos, like I stated above, I am learning so much as I go.
The “Joy” pillowcase is on white canvas fabric and the damask was painted with red paint and red iridescent paints mixed. The word “Joy” is painted in light gold metallic paint that pops against the red damask and white fabric.
“Peace” Throw Pillows
Look at that shine! UG! This image needs some definite improvement. The damask is created from Magenta and Burgundy paints with the iridescent red adding sparkle and pearlized accents are added on the top. Both sides of the case have the painted damask print. “Peace” is an overlay of light gold metallic paint. I love the pops of Magenta throughout the pattern, it’s a lovely combination.
Stylishly Cozy Throw Pillows
The entire Collection of Pillowcases were designed to mix and match. The “Joy” and “Peace” pillows look great together. I can also paint the damask pattern in colors to match your existing decor. They would look lovely in blues or greys, any color combination actually.
And for those of you who love a great Ampersand, this is a eye-catching combination. Perfect for generating good vibes the entire season, picture them lined up on the back of your couch.
The “Ampersand” Pillowcase
The Bright & Fun Spring/Summer Collection featured an Ampersand on a Black fabric. I’m happy to know that I’m not the only one who loves a great Ampersand! A friend requested for me to make an Ampersand on Burlap, and I love it. Although our home is more modern in decor, I love a farmhouse touch here and there. And the burlap adds so much interest and texture.
If you are wanting a set including the Ampersand you can personalize your own pillowcase. Perhaps “Mr.” and “Mrs.” or “Now” and “Forever”. The possibilities are endless and I really do love a great Ampersand!
Denim Damask “Peace” Throw Pillows
I really love this version of the Damask “Peace” pillow, the pattern is done in Iridescent Red Paint over a Dark Blue Denim. I love the contrast of the red and blue, creating a lavender look in some areas. I wanted the pattern to look vintage and a bit worn, it turned out gorgeous.
Look at that detail! I love it.
The “Peace” is painted in Silver Metallic, it stands out nicely against the dark fabric. In the image above the word looks as if it’s painted white, I really need to figure out the lighting for the metallics on the fabric!
Stylishly Cozy Throw Pillows
There are more Pillow Cases in the store and I will be writing a bit about each one soon. I wanted to show you the depth of the fabrics and the paint treatments of each one and that’s far too much for one post.
What do you think of the new Collection? Do you have a favorite?
